Since its inception in March 2020, Philipp Priebe’s Stólar has unveiled a run of material from the Berlin-based artist himself as well as well as remixes from the likes of Tilman and Japan’s Metome. Here it marks its eighth release, once again showcasing Priebe’s take on hypnotic, melancholic deep house sounds. Title-track ‘Another Insane Sky Tonight’ leads the release, infused with swirling atmospherics, murky piano tones and glistening resonant string swells atop a gritty lo-fi rhythm and field recordings.
‘August’ follows next, embracing a more stripped-back feel with a focus on robust drums, choppy bass stabs and modulating atmospherics while the wandering keys and subtly nuanced pads further the fuel the unfurling groove. Amsterdam’s Villete then steps up to remix ‘August’, delivering an ambient twist on the original, extracting the atmospherics elements and drawing them out to a near five-minute, ever unfolding and meditative state.
